#125 Garbage

Garbage day at my neighbor's house. (Note snow remnants in the gutter - north side of the street.) Our garbage volume has decreased significantly with recycling and composting. AND there are only the two of us at home. Neighbor has two young children, which makes a difference.

#218 Pastel

The Wasabi Restaurant across the street from the Snake River has elegant table settings. Well, elegant for me. Cloth napkins in pretty colors - I like it! Oh yeah, the food is good, too.

Art You Can Sit On - Snake River Cutthroat Trout by Craig Jones. I thought the afternoon sun caught the earth-tones of this water animal pretty well.

#53 Coiled

Snakes sometimes coil, don't they? This Art You Can Sit On is called "Snake on the Snake" by Davidjohn Stosick. I was appreciative of the willingness of the water fowl to pose for me!

"D" is for Disney. Mickey was Walt's first (or one of the first) animated personages. My husband allows a bit of whimsey on occasion and wears his MM watch - even to church!

#102 Fear(less)

The geese amaze me. They stand right on the edge of the falls - on one leg and snuggle their beak under their wing. Not sure what to make of that. Seems like the speed of the water would make it a bit precarious. They probably know something I don't since they have been doing it longer than I have been around!

This local dairy does not inject hormones into their cows. Maybe that's why these ladies' milk makes the best ice cream!

#55 Comfort Foods

Plain fare of soup and bread is served at the Friday Lenten Lunch. Although Lent is a tough time in the church year, soup is a welcome comfort food.

#259 Shade of Gray

Public Art - "Snake River Fur Trader: For all who follow the River" by Roy Reynolds, 2001.

This statue honors some of the founders of our city. It stands in the median next to the Snake River as it flows through town. Photo was taken on one of our many winter overcast days.

#71 Debris

The parking lot "snow hills" are melting and revealing debris as well as the black sand collected along with the snow. That's one way to pick up the litter.

#134 Group

The Idaho Falls Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums group entertained for the St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl. Part serious, part silly, the guys did a great job and the crowd enjoyed the performance. Even though sunny, the late afternoon temps were a bit brisk but it was worth it.

#220 Pipes

Bag pipes, that is. I REALLY like listening to the bag pipes. For the past I-don't-know-how-many-years the Idaho Falls Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums group has helped local citizens party by briefly visiting and playing at a series of "establishments." Other people call it a version of the "Pub Crawl." I just go to listen. This was their third stop. The Idaho Brewery gave a free drink (specialty beers or just a soda) and corned beef with cabbage for a $5 contribution to Habitat for Humanity. What a deal! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

#49 Chores

One of my weekly chores is to deliver my family's recycling items to the "dumpster." I feel good about not only recycling materials back into use but keeping my landfill contribution to a minimum. We don't have curbside pickup for recycling in our town but that's OK. It's not out of my way to make this stop. I just wish there was a place for glass.

Although green in color, this is not my St. Patrick's Day submission. Wait until tomorrow!

So Feng Shui! A red front door means good luck. This neighbor brightens my smile whenever I pass. No one else is brave enough to be so bright!

#176 Matched Pair

These two beauties grace a bench on a busy street in front of a cafe, which I will have to try out soon! This one is not a part of the Art You Can Sit On series but is still quite a beauty, I think! I didn't see a plaque so I can't give credit to the artist.

She's doing a great job cleaning the hotel driveway with a power hose. Signs of spring? Maybe we don't have to put down anymore sand?

Alight by Carol Skvorak. One of the newer Art You Can Sit On benches which are near the Snake River instead of downtown. Not a bad place to munch a sandwich on a sunny, warm day.

#58 Contemporary

It's the season of weekly Lenten lunches. Six churches participate, a different one each Friday. Yesterday our lunch was at the First Lutheran Church which has a very contemporary sanctuary. The photo does not do it justice. I enjoy each visit there.

#231 Purple

The color used in the sanctuary for most of Lent is purple, red violet, or dark violel. These colors symbolize both the pain and suffering leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus as well as the suffering of humanity and the world under sin. But purple is also the color of royalty, and so anticipates through the suffering and death of Jesus the coming resurrection and hope of newness that will be celebrated in the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. for Lent. My DH, the pastor, during imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday. Not all Protestants observe Ash Wednesday but our church feels it is an important time in the Liturgical Year.

All creatures great and small. One of the stained glass windows in the First Christian Church, Nampa, Idaho. Aren't butterflies amazing! So much color. So much variety.

#56 Comfy & Cozy

Cats in cushions, which are located in DH's office/library/den near a space heater. They are so smart and so cute. Of course, this is only one of many comfy and cozy places they choose to nap.

#46 Children

This mural, recently finished, is in the children's Sunday School room in our church. It is a fitting memorial to a dear member who recently passed away after a long illness. The artist is another member's grandson. We are all connected.

#295 Symmetrical

Swan by Robert Carter. "The artist recreates elements from the Colonial Theatre neon swan in this graceful bench of steel filled with concrete."

Above the bench is a neon sign that is supposed to be "swan-like." I didn't get it so am not including it in this presentation. The bench is on the corner near the historic Colonial Theatre, which is a must-see when visiting Idaho Falls. We watched The Nutcracker performed here in December. As you can see, the sunny location has melted the snow. Yippee!

#303 The Letter B

Wine barrels have a whole market niche of their own. Not all barrels are created equal. You will have to google your own research if you are interested. I just know that after some years the wineries sell the old ones to the public at, sometimes, reasonable prices. Great for container gardens! But you need a pickup truck to get them home.

The River by Zac Turner, C. Jay Wilbur, and Idaho Steel. "Ribbons of blue steel flow and glide over the rocks to the ground in this graceful tribute to our river and the falls. By heating and molding steel, the artists create a beautiful landmark for downtown."
Another bench from the "Art You Can Sit On" series, sponsored by the Idaho Falls Arts Council. I love living here. There is so much going on for a city this size (55,000 give-or-take).

#104 Fish

Trout by Davidjohn Stosich. "Salmon and trout are carved into heavy, Idaho pine to create a stunning work of art. Here, world famous Idaho fly fishermen can sit and dream of catching the Big One!" This bench is located in front of, what else, a fishing supply store!

This shot was taken the day before the top photo. Note how the snow is melting. There is hope for spring! Overcast days are best for some pictures. This is one of them!

Snake River by Kristine Burnham. "As in the sparkling Snake River, which runs through our downtown, rocks peek up through cement waves on this inviting and tranquil bench."

Yes, it's comfortable to sit on as long as you are careful!

#7 Aqua

Fish in River by Russel Lewis. "Tiny colored bubbles of glass float down this beautiful river bench. In this work the artist has combined glass balls and hand-blown glass fish with cement to create a splashy resting place."

When I read the theme list I thought of "aqua" as a turquoisy color rather than a synonym for water. I'm happy that this bench is a happy combination of both meanings.
