#285 Still Life

My sister built a gingerbread replica (still life) of our church

for the annual Heritage Christmas exhibit

at the Museum of Idaho in Idaho Falls.

Getting it delivered in one piece was the major concern.

Fortunately it is only a short trip (mile and half).

But all is well and ready for the public to enjoy

our contribution - one of many in the gingerbread category.

(This is not a contest, just a display.)

The quilt creator shows a lot of care in this remembrance to a loved one lost to AIDS.

On an underpass in Denver. Pretty cool, I think. 

Note that the reflection in each pair of glasses is different, 

emphasizing a different aspect of Denver/Colorado culture.

No matter the weather, these children play marbles together. I wish girls weren't usually portrayed as spectators/cheerleaders.

Sorry, no indication as to the artist's identity. The sculpture is located in the Grove Plaza, Boise, Idaho.

#204 Oddity

"I See What You Mean"-  a 30-foot steel sculpture, encased in a fiberglass 

and cement composite, by artist Lawrence Argent (2005). 

Bear is peeking into the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver - 

a touch of whimsey in an otherwise uninteresting/normal venue.

I love pottery and ceramics and these artists make such pretty stuff. "Stuff," because, while I enjoy it, I don't want to own it. My cupboards and walls are full.

#301 The Arts

The Eagle Rock Art Guild supports the annual Sidewalk Art Show on the Snake River Green Belt, Idaho Falls. All art is welcome - two dimensional, sculpture, music. I didn't see any dance. Suffice it to say, there was a lot of talent represented in the park.

It's been awhile since I posted a scrapbook page. Maybe I'll get back into it.

#314 The Letter M - Magic

The Philadelphia's Magic Gardens on South Street was a serendipitous find, as it wasn't on any of my tour guide or must-see lists. The photos don't do any justice to this grand display of broken things. Please peruse the web site for more photos and information. Public art abounds!

#259 Shade of Gray

Public Art - "Snake River Fur Trader: For all who follow the River" by Roy Reynolds, 2001.

This statue honors some of the founders of our city. It stands in the median next to the Snake River as it flows through town. Photo was taken on one of our many winter overcast days.

#46 Children

This mural, recently finished, is in the children's Sunday School room in our church. It is a fitting memorial to a dear member who recently passed away after a long illness. The artist is another member's grandson. We are all connected.

#10 Art

This piece, also by Dale Chihuly, is displayed in the lounge at the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. I tried to lighten it up a bit. Lounges have a way of being dark. This hotel doesn't skimp on the artwork!

I'm thinking it's a bouquet of flowers but the tendrils could be underwater, octopus-like? Nah, flowers.

#138 Hanging

Imagine checking into a hotel with this gorgeous collection of glass flowers above you! Created by Dale Chihuly, they are three to four feet in diameter. Of course, the photo does no justice to the size and "wonderful-ness" of it. Magnificent!
