#20 Beverages

Not my "cup of tea" but saloons served the beverages of the day.
"The Rivers Saloon was built in 1888 at the mouth of Wood River, west of present Meeteetse, Wyoming. It was frequented by cowboys, gold miners, outlaws and other colorful characters of the Old West. Bullet holes can still be seen in the door. It is the oldest remaining saloon in the northwest Wyoming."You might be able to see the bullet holes in the wall just below the deer head. Amazing that they were preserved. No mention as to the specific occasion.
Old Trail Town, Cody, Wyoming.

  1. How cool! When you say "oldest remaining saloon", is it still in operation? Or just still standing? I love that they kept the bullet holes.

  2. I wonder if someone didn't get drunk in the saloon and shoot at the deer head thinking it would be an easy kill! ;-)

  3. Somehow the pinkish walls and cowboys don't seem to go together . . .

  4. Gisele: It's the oldest remaining - still standing. The building is not in use.

Lois: Pinkish - actually red, a common color, I think, since saloons usually also implied a brothel nearby. Maybe it implied a touch of class?? No, probably not.

  5. It's jarring to see bullet holes in such prissy wallpaper!

  6. I wouldn't mind having that old cash register displayed somewhere around my house.

  7. It's my cup of tea, though I would hope the bullet holes were from yesteryear and not from some recent yahoo exercising his 2nd Amendment interpretation.

Personally I would choose a different colored wallpaper!

  8. That massive old register is really something. They don't make em like they used to!!Wonder how many transactions it has made in its lifetime? Looks like there's a "baby" one just out of the photo too.
