#1 Abstract

I wracked my brain ever since getting the list - abstract? All I could think of was abstract art and taking a picture of a picture doesn't seem like the point of this project. FINALLY! I remembered the "Art You Can Sit On" collection of twenty-two benches our city has so proudly displayed. You will probably see more of these through the year.

"voodoo chili" by Doug Warnock is a tile and glass mosaic bench in the contour of a young woman. I brushed off most of the snow but couldn't dislodge all the ice. I thought the shadows were a nice touch. Sorry my footprints interfered. I didn't think of it soon enough.

  4. Looks like it's "chili" in more than name only. Good idea!

  5. Footprints don't interfere--they add context.

  9. I like the dusting (or crusting?) of snow on top of the bench and the less than perfect surface of snow on the ground. It is a great idea for the theme - you're off to a good start.

I noticed a few people started with the theme "abstract". Are you planning on working the theme list in order? That's ambitious!

  10. Well, you are starting out day one with #1 on the list. I tend to jump around one the list and hope I touch all of the subjects some time in the year. It frees my thinking processes.
I hope you will certainly bring this art work to our attention during the year. It is very creative....

  13. Interesting bench, although it doesn't look very "sit-able". The shadows and footprints help add depth. Good shot.

  15. Thanks, everyone!

I'm not going to follow the list in order. I've found that that doesn't allow for the wonderful, serendipitous findings that aren't today's theme. I just wanted to get some of the more difficult ones done first so I'm not scrambling at the end of the year.

  17. This is a bench??? How cool! Though I'm not sure how comfortable I would feel sitting on "art." ;-)
