#22 Black and White Image

I was afraid for my safety. As I approached the geese and mallards (who all forgot to go south for the winter), they stampeded me thinking I was bringing lunch. The park rangers frown on feeding people food to the wild fowl AND I didn't think about it anyway. The big guy in front didn't want to take no for an answer. He was sure I was holding out. I tried to persuade them that I wasn't a teaser. They let me off with a warning.
The photo was almost a black and white without any Elements tweaking. I am having so much fun.

  2. Great shot! I have been swarmed by ducks before and it can get really scary when they get aggressive. I love how it looks like the ducks will never end........

  4. That's quite a large flock of birds! I've seen them in the snowy cornfields, but not so many!

  5. What a funny story and perfect photo to illustrate it. Having the birds fill the frame like that emphasizes the idea that you were surrounded. This could not work nearly as well in color, in my view, because the tones make it seem a lot more menacing.

  6. Great capture. You are brave to go among the hungry geese.

  7. Terrific story and photo. Hungry birds can be most scary -- just think of Hitchcock's movie. :D

  11. Geese can be very menacing, you were brave to get this close, but the reward was this great shot, well done on the B & W processing.

  12. B&W is perfect for this image, because it puts teh emphasis squarely on the mass of birds--and the aggressive fellow in the front. You're one stalwart photographer to face down this gaggle!

  14. What a great view of the geese with the close focus on the first and then geese extending seeming forever into the background. I know first hand how aggressive a goose can be! We have many geese on the lake at the State Capitol in Pierre that doesn't freeze up and do they make a poopie mess all over the walkways etc. I love wildlife but it needs to be wild!!

  15. I think "naturally" near-black and white shots often make the best black & whites. The shades really pop out.
I also love geese. They are hilarious, and make it very easy to anthropomorphize them.
